In Conclusion…

5 things I learnt from 2018…

The world is changing at an ever faster rate: As a photographer and business person I always need to adapt, learn, try new things and move forward while never losing sight of what is important to me.

Social media: the hyper reality that is now social media, it’s all about the perfect lives of perfect people in a perfect world. I guess that lets me stand out as imperfect.

I still exercise despite the dread. I know there are people out there that love to feel the burn and the high of a good workout, sadly I’m not one. It’s a chore that has to be done, like unpacking the dishwasher or driving in rush hour when you’d rather be at home with your feet up and a coffee. Though it allegedly keeps me healthy so the trade-off is worth it. Sometimes we have to do things we don’t like for the greater good.

Photography is still only a small part of being a photographer. Taking pictures is a small part of what I do, maybe just 10%, the rest is marketing, finance, meetings, answering emails, answering calls, education, website maintenance, travelling, reccing new locations, pre-production, post-production, making calls, quoting for jobs the list goes on. Being your own boss is much tougher than you think, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
