Photographing a new build home…

Recently I was commissioned to capture a beautiful new build home by award winning developers FourSeven Homes. From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the attention to detail that had been put into the design and construction of this stunning home.

Understanding the Design:

Before starting photography an architectural photographer must understand the design and architectural features of the building. From the materials used to the angles and lines that make it stand out. In this case, the exterior is clad in beautiful charred Siberian larch. Noting the key features that define the home, such as the windows, doors, and roofline, and how best to showcase them in the photographs.

Time of Day Matters:

Lighting is critical when it comes to architectural photography, and the time of day you choose to photograph a building can make all the difference. Understanding where and how the light falls at anytime time of the day allows for perfect planning. What time does the sunset? where does it set? and of course forecasting the weather, in Northern Ireland that’s always a challenge!

Edit with Care:

Architectural photography requires great care in the editing process. While editing can help enhance the appeal of a building, the photos must always be representative and sensitive to the original architects vision.  I keep the editing simple and subtle, and focus on enhancing the natural beauty of the home.
